International Projects

Water Conservation Project
Our International Project for year 2007/8/9 has commenced and we will be holding a series of fundraising activities during the period. We have got off to an excellent start with a B-B-Q for members and friends which raised in excess of £700.

Heifer Project - Kololo
Funds and donations have raised the further money for the heifer project. These have been terrific and successful projects undertaken by the International Service Team with participation from all local schools. Match funding enabled the projects for Uganda to raise approx $20,000. We now have a DVD from the Rotary Club of Kololo, which demonstrates good Rotary practice of clubs linking together to help communities around the world.
The funding had provided more cattle than originally anticipated - 9 cattle provided rises to 15, with another 5 on the way. One year on and RI report stated all is well and we will have an 18 month update soon.

GSE Team Visit
The South Korean delegation, four English teachers from District 3610, visited Hayle and St.Ives as part of their month long visit to the District 1290. The vistors enjoyed their educational and cultural trips around the area, especially the visit to Paradise Park and the World Parrot Trust.

Pornic Pays-de-Retz
In May 1978 we twinned with French Rotary Club, Pornic-Pays de Retz. The clubs take it in turns to visit each others club. 2008 saw the arrival of the Rotary Club of Hayle in Pornic for a long weekend. Members enjoyed a interesting tour of Nantes, where the highlight was the viewing of the giant moving elephant.

Giant moving elephant

Visitors and natives alike appreciate the craftmanship of the 30 metre high moving elephant.

Both Rotary Clubs agreed not to attempt to take this elephant over the Pyrenees, a la Hannibal.

Aqua Box
Hayle Rotary has purchased, and is currently filling another Aqua Box.The Club will continue to support this activity throughout the year. This is the 9th Aqua Box to be completed this year.
